This life

The past year, and this as well, has been a rough one.
I ended up home on sick leave, the doctor said it was a clear case of burn out. I’ve had a great doctor, and my colleagues and manager have been really supportive. It’s been a long way back, but I can feel I’m getting there. I’ve started working again, if only for a couple of hours and I’m working on my good routines. Daily walks, crochet, art and crafts.

Actually this period has given me my creativity back. When I was younger I always drew and painted. Drew scenes from Lord of The Rings while listening to music. I’ve got this back and it feels so darn good!! Nothing can make me feel so good as some paper, paint, music and what not that can turn into something amazing, from your imagination.

I made this in my watercolour journal and I thought this quote from The Verve’s song ”Bittersweet Symphony” suited a spread like this. Love this song from the 90ies, and the video…

I took the selfie on one of the tough days while in bed, sometimes I guess you need to remember those days too.

I’ve used a stencil from Tim Holtz, some odd paper scraps, my old acrylic paints for base and splatters… and the letters might be from Basic Grey… I think…

Take care of yourself.
Stay creative.

Do or do not

We love Star Wars in this family, but we like the old films the best. My husband and I use the saying Yoda has: ”Do, or do not. There is no try.” … or something like that…
I think it works on many things. Like don’t feel bad about the dishes waiting, decide to do them, or not to. They wont go away and when you’ve decided that you wont do them, you can find peace to create something instead. Art before chores might be my new saying. 😉

The little house I see on my daily walks in a green space close to our home. It’s like a mini forest just around the corner.

Remember, do or do not. Guilt is a negative feeling and leads to nothing creative. 😉

My first art journal

I’ve made my first art journal!!
I used an old watercolour block I had laying around, and removed some pages and decorated the cover.

Love it!

And the first page is a really softstart… I just wanted to start with a full spread. The crow is one I found at the homepage of the Swedish Historic Museum. If I remember right it’s originally a pendant or something from the Viking era.

More pages to come. :)

Seed bead heaven

I’m in seed bead heaven! Yesterday my package with beads arrived, unfortunately I was totally bedridden and couldn’t fully appreciate the small colourful mixes. Having both a bad cold and a really bad migraine sort of beats the most more positive things.

I ordered these beads for the rest of my birthday money and they shipped all right, but somewhere on the route from Arizona, USA, to my place in Sweden it sort of got stuck. Guess the Swedish customs wanted to have a closer look. But now they’re here! Yay! Five bags of absolutely lovely mixes of 6/0 mm seed beads, plus a small bonus bag with equally beautiful beads.
I found this wonderful shop on Etsy, I’ve looked for big enough beads, for crocheting (and maybe some beadwork), for ages. It’s called ”Spirit Bear Beads” and the owner is very helpful and shipped really fast. She’s got lots of different beads, and the mixes are to die for… and the names of the mixes are true poetry.

I’ve got plans for two of the bags, the Emerald Isle mix and the Red Rum Raisen mix. I’ll use them both for shawls, it’s a pattern I’ve had laying around. Actually this shawl is one of the reasons I wanted to learn how to crochet, The Lisa shawl. Love it!
For the Emerald Isle mix I’m thinking of using Malabrigo’s Agua and for the Red Rum Raisen I’m going to use, also a Malabrigo yarn, but the Tizina red. Hopefully I’ll find one more skein of the Aguas yarn, it appears to be out of stock everywhere in Sweden.

The bonus bag contained a mix called Blue Jay Birdwatcher mix. A beautiful mix of blues and greys. I have to find a project to use them in…

Now I feel I’ll have to crawl under the blanket again. Have some home made ginger tea and maybe some pop-corn. That must be a perfect combo, right?

Keep well and prosper.

Yarn, yarn and yarn

Today my yarn orders arrived! Yay! My excuses for ordering more yarn were that I had to use up the rest of my Birthday money, and I had to order more yarn to a current wip. I know, good excuses right!?

I have stared with big eyes on yarns from Malabrigo and Cascade for ages. Totally yummie and gorgeous colours! So when I received  some money for my Birthday I decided that I should buy some of these gorgeous skeins of yarn.
In the first picture you can see one skein of Malabrigo’s sock yarn in the colour Aguas. Unfortunately they only had one skein left, I had an idea of using it for a shawl pattern I have on my waiting list. But I’m sure I’ll come up with something. It’s a bit darker than I thought, but still beautiful shades of grey/green/blue. The other skeins are Cascade 220 Fingering yarns in the colours Cyan blue (8891), Azure (8892), Anis (8908), Flamingo Pink (7805) and Natural (8010). Difficult to photograph so the colours come out right, but I love them! Maybe I’ll use them for a blanket… All of these yarns are ordered from Garnkorgen, a Swedish site with lots of gorgeous yarns to dream of.

The other package was from Garnaffären another Swedish site with lots of yarns to choose from, I mainly order Drops Paris from them and that’s what was in the package this time also.
Last week I started making a cover for a stool I bought at a flea market ages ago. I found this pattern at Pinterest and I thought it would be perfect. It’s a total yarn eater though, so I soon realised that the yarn I had wouldn’t be enough… Too bad, right? 😉

So when I had to order some yarn for my project, I just had to order some extra colours right? It’s good to have for small projects and I feel another pillow is coming up… or a market bag… or something totally different. You can never know when the crochet bug strikes. The colours are Pistachio (39), Vanilla (35), Off white (17), White (16), Light ice blue (29), Dark turquoise (10), Light light pink (57), Apricot (01), Rust (46) and Light mint green (21). I think I’ll continue with the stool cover right away… or maybe I should just sit and squeeze the Malabrigo and Cascade skeins a bit more, maybe turn them into squeezable balls…

Another thing I’m waiting for is a package full of seed beads from Spirit Bear Beads over at Etsy. She has absolutely gorgeous beads in various mixes, Emerald Isle mix and Beaches mix are two of five mixes I bought for the rest of my Birthday money. I plan on trying some crochet with beads, one is a shawl with a Malabrigo yarn I’ve had for a couple of years. I bought it as a newbie in crochet and have not come around to use it until now… I hope. It’s the same yarn as the Aguas I wrote about earlier. It’s so soft, merino wool and a beautiful deep red. The pattern is one of the reasons I wanted to learn how to crochet and now might be the time to try add some beads in the mix.

Many thanks,
