Summer exhibition

This summer I will participate in the local summer exhibition. This years theme is recycled and up-cycled art, and it’s our local art society that arranges it. For those of you understanding Swedish you can read more about it here.

I’ve been working on a couple things mainly reusing cereal packages, but also smaller boxes, and turned them into shadowboxes and assemblages.
This is what my table looked like last week…

Closeups I took during the  process of two of my pieces I’m going to exhibit. The crow I’ve chosen to call The Magician, greatly inspired by the Major Arcana in a tarot deck. I’m planning on doing a series on the same theme, maybe not all but some.

summerexhibition2016_2

I’m calling this Crow-girl, partly inspired by the books written by Charles de Lint where two crow-girls frequently appears. In the books they’re more kinda wild girls, but they’ve got a more sad, or melancholy strike to them as well.

The exhibition opens in about a weeks time, and you’ll be able to buy my pieces if you want to. Looking forward to see what more will be exhibited and hopes that there’ll be lots of visitors!

Until next time. :)

Cheers,
Josefina

Ps. The crow head and the crow-girl’s face comes from Mischief Circus, a great site with loads of awesome images you can use in your artwork. Just read the Terms of Use so you know what applies to each designers kit. 😉

Art journal splatters

Today I’ve got a new art journal spread to share!

layout_2016_1b

I ordered these sprays from Lindy’s Stamp Gang, and when they arrived I just had to test them. It just happened that I had prepped a spread in one of my art journals with gesso, so I tried them out there. Maybe a bit unusual colours for me, but I love how they look together. Very much spring.

And then it just lay there, waiting for me to make something more with it… and finally I decided to use one of Finnabair’s ephemera packs. Another rather unusual choice for me… and of course I had to use papers from 7 Dots Studio! Lost & Found must be one of my all time favs!

Well, here are the result. Hope you enjoy!

Aaaand… since I thought that the colours I used is pretty much similar to Lindy’s Stamp Gang’s April challenge I’ll join them this month… and hope I get everything right. 😀

Unfortunately I didn’t write down the colours used, but I know it was C’est la vie Cerise, and probably Hibiscus Rose and Aloha Avocado… Hope that suffice. :)

Creative Gym – Exercise #5

It’s been a while since I posted anything. Life and work somehow got in the way… I’ve gone up in time at work, and it’s a challenge to adjust to have less time to create.

I decided to join the Mixed Media Place’s Creative Gym this month and their exercise #5. The rules for this one is: combine black backround + all the colors of the rainbow.

My first try was a black background and layering loads of colours with different stencils… It didn’t work for me, so paint over with fresh black acrylic and start over. This gave me a more textured surface to work on, and that’s always a plus, right?

So, here’s my entry. I used a photo of my son from last year, he’s on his way to a party and having his smart outfit, and crooked smile, on. He loves orange, and pretty much all bright colours. I’ve used a couple of Lindy’s Stamp Gang sprays, sequines, Finnabair’s beads, and different decorative elements as cutouts and paperclips. The golden stars I just cutout from gold foil paper.

Really like how this exercise turned out. Hope you like it too. :)

These boots

I finished a spread this weekend, and for some reason I’d choose the phrase ”These boots are made for walking”. I don’t even like that song that much! LOL
I’ve decided that this year, 2015, will be a year when I challenge myself, try new doors and to be open for possibilities… Maybe that’s why it popped into my head?

Anyway… I wanted to try out the Finnabair crackle/texture paste and the art sugar I bought before Christmas, and I wanted to try a style I’m not so comfortable with. Not sure about the result, but I love the art sugar and the texture paste. I was a bit inpatient so I used a heat tool to dry the paste with, so I’m not sure if it crackled enough… Have to try it on more projects!

I’m going to try to discipline myself around the blogging. I want it after all to be some sort of diary/logbook over my creativity… So I figured a blog-planner that works for me might help me on the way. Some structure to the creative chaos. 😉

Keep on walking.

Forests of the Heart

That is the book title from one of my favourite writers, Charles de Lint. He writes urban fantasy and I always get so inspired by him. To stay creative.
This book is good, but I think my favourite one is ”Onion girl”, maybe I’ll do a spread someday inspired by that one.

I made this spread in June last year, but never got around posting it here. I’ve mainly used watercolours and a stencil from Tim Holtz I believe. The alphabet I can’t remember where I got from.

Hope you’re having a great Sunday!

The rest is dust

Love this quote by Vladimir Nabokov.
I had, however, a hard time with this layout. First it turned out all orange, and it was laying there a couple of days and I was feeling unhappy with it. Then I covered it with white gesso and started from the beginning. Like it better now.

dust_full page

Used some scraps, both home made and bought stamps and some different metal trinkets. The food stamps I found last summer in Gothenburgh, bought a whole stack. :)
The background paper is from an old drawing pad and an old notebook.

The edges are inked with distress ink, Vintage Paper, and I’ve sprayed the blue element with some Tattered Angel mist.

Now I’ll go out in the sun, maybe take a cooling dip in the lake. I love being on holiday! … even if it’s soon over.

Let the sunshine in!

Shadow box

Today I decided to alter the little paper box I bought earlier. I didn’t have any idea what I wanted to do with it. I sort of just went with the flow.

I added some paper from Graphic 45 and some pictures I found on Graphics Fairy. The background behind the lady and the crown is a playing card, with some texture paste I added through a stencil. I also sprayed the inside of the box with Dylusions Vibrant Turquoise.
The embellishments are some stuff I had laying around, brads, paper clip, sequin and button. The stars I cut out from a paper-scrap I had, can’t remember where it came from.

New header

Changed the layout and header. Yay! Love the picture I used for the header. It’s a spread I did a couple of weeks ago. I still haven’t added any word or journaling… not sure if I want to…

The original spread looks like this:

The layout might change a bit, but for now it’ll make do.

Have a good one!

Book binding

This is going to be a pic heavy post. I would like to show my first book I’ve stitched together my self. Weeee! Loved making this, every picture is chosen because I like it and off course the book is in mainly green and blue. The book is rather small, something like 12,5 cm (or 5 inch).

It’s made in Coptic stitch and I watched all video tutorials of Laura Lein-Svencner before I started… and during. It’s great with You Tube! You can stop and pause at any time, I’ve used it much when teaching myself to crochet.

The covers are made out of old cardboard I had laying around, always saving good boxes to use… someday. I’m such a hoarder…
First there are two pics from my wip, and then there are pics of every page I’ve finished. I’ve used many different scraps of paper, some I know is from Basic Grey, but much are just stuff I’ve had for ages. The picture of the badger I’ve had since I were like 7 or something. Isn’t he pretty?
Ok, so here we go. Hope you like it. :)

I still have a couple of pages left to fill, but I do love my little book. I haven’t made any journaling, but this feels like a sketchbook where I’ve tried to use different techniques and material. The page with the star in green and blue, I’ve used alcohol ink, never used it before. So, a great way to try new stuff.

Thanks for watching.
Love,
Jos
